# Internet connected but not working: what to check

What to check when your devices show they're connected to Wi-Fi but web pages and apps won't load, from the modem lights to a waiting sign-in page.

If your device says it is connected to Wi-Fi but nothing loads, the Wi-Fi link is fine and the problem is further upstream.

1. **Check the modem's internet light** - If it is off or red, the fault is between the modem and the network, not inside your home.
2. **Try a different website** - A single site being down looks identical to an outage from the inside.
3. **Forget and rejoin the network** - On the affected device, forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect with the password.
4. **Check for a captive portal** - Some devices silently fail when a sign-in page is waiting.
