# How to improve Wi-Fi coverage in your home

Practical ways to fix Wi-Fi dead zones at home, from moving your router to choosing a mesh system over a range extender.

If some rooms have a strong signal and others have none, the fix is usually coverage rather than speed.

## Start with the basics

Move the router somewhere central and unobstructed before spending money on hardware. This alone resolves most dead zones in an average home.

## When you need more hardware

A mesh system replaces your Wi-Fi with several units that hand devices between them seamlessly. It is a better answer than a range extender in most homes, because an extender halves the available bandwidth on the devices connected to it.

Double-brick homes, homes with foil-backed insulation, and anything over about 200 square metres will usually need mesh rather than a single router.
