# How to check nbn availability at your address

A step-by-step guide to finding out which nbn technology is available at your address, what the result means, and what to do next.

Before you can compare plans, you need to know what's actually available at your address — the nbn™ network isn't uniform, and the technology running past your door affects your maximum speed.

## Step 1: Check the address, not the suburb

Availability varies street by street, and sometimes house by house. A neighbour's connection type isn't a reliable guide to yours.

## Step 2: Look for the technology type

You'll typically see one of:

- **FTTP** (Fibre to the Premises) — the fastest, most future-proof option
- **FTTN/FTTC** (Fibre to the Node/Curb) — fibre most of the way, copper for the final stretch
- **HFC** (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) — shared with cable TV infrastructure
- **Fixed Wireless or Satellite** — for areas outside the fixed-line footprint

## Step 3: Match the technology to a realistic plan

Don't pick a 1000 Mbps plan if your address is capped by FTTN — check the maximum speed tier available before you compare pricing.

## Step 4: Talk to us if anything looks unclear

Address data isn't always perfectly up to date, especially in areas with recent fibre upgrades. If your result looks wrong, or you're planning a move, our team can double-check it against the latest network data before you commit to a plan.
