Fibre upgrades change the maximum speed available at an address — often significantly. Here's what to expect if an upgrade is happening near you.

How upgrades typically roll out

Fibre expansion usually happens street by street or suburb by suburb, prioritised by a mix of existing infrastructure age, population density and identified demand.

What changes for you

If your address moves from FTTN or fixed wireless to FTTP, you'll typically see:

  • Significantly higher maximum speed tiers become available
  • More consistent performance during peak hours
  • Symmetrical upload speeds on higher tiers, useful for hybrid and remote work

What doesn't change automatically

An upgrade to the street doesn't automatically upgrade your home — you'll usually need to actively switch plans (and sometimes hardware) to take advantage of the new maximum speeds available.

How to find out if you're affected

Check your address regularly using our availability checker, especially if you know upgrade works have been happening nearby. We'll also notify existing customers directly when their address becomes eligible for a higher tier.
