Fixed Wireless peak period speeds: what they mean and why they vary
What peak period speeds mean on Fixed Wireless nbn, why they vary from night to night, and what to expect from your plan in the evening.
Every home connected to a Fixed Wireless tower shares its capacity. During busy periods, particularly in the evening between 7pm and 11pm, more households online at once means each connection gets a smaller share. That's why nbn Co publishes separate peak and off-peak typical speeds for Fixed Wireless.
Our Fixed Wireless plans
- FW Basic - up to 25Mbps download / 5Mbps upload
- FW Plus - up to 100Mbps download / 20Mbps upload
- FW Home Fast - up to 250Mbps download / 8-20Mbps upload
- FW Super Fast - up to 400Mbps download / 10-40Mbps upload
FW Home Fast and FW Super Fast are only available at eligible addresses, depending on your tower and signal strength.
What affects your speed
- How busy your tower is - especially in the evening.
- Your signal - your distance from the tower, and anything in the way, like hills, trees or new buildings.
- Weather - heavy rain or storms can occasionally affect the signal.
- Your home setup - Wi-Fi coverage and older devices.
If your Fixed Wireless speed is only slow in the evening and fine at other times, that's expected rather than a fault. If it's slow all day, contact us and we'll check your service.
