Do I need a static IP address, and how do I get one on nbn?
When a fixed IP address is worth having, and how to add one to your plan.
Most nbn plans use a dynamic IP address, which can change from time to time. A static IP stays the same permanently, which some setups depend on.
When you need one
Running your own mail server, hosting a website from your premises, needing reliable remote access to security cameras or business systems, or running a VPN endpoint that other locations connect to by a fixed address.
When you don't
General browsing, streaming and most cloud-based business software (including most VPN client setups) work fine with a standard dynamic IP.
- Confirm you need one Talk to us or your IT provider about whether your specific use case requires a static IP.
- Add it to your plan We can add a static IP add-on to eligible business nbn plans.
- Reconfigure your equipment Your IT provider updates the relevant device or service to use the new fixed address.
