Do I need to be home for my nbn installation?
When an adult needs to be home for your nbn technician appointment, what they'll need access to, and what happens if no one is there.
Yes, in most cases someone aged 18 or over needs to be present for the entire appointment when a technician is installing new equipment, since they may need access to different parts of the property, including inside the home.
Appointment windows
Appointments are usually booked within a broad window (such as a four-hour block) rather than an exact time. This window is when the technician is expected to arrive, not the time by which the installation will be finished. Depending on the work needed, the installation may continue past the end of the window.
Plan to be home from the start of the window, and make sure someone stays until the technician has finished.
If you can't be there
You can arrange for another adult to be present on your behalf, or reschedule to a time that works. A missed appointment with no one present may need to be rebooked, which can add to your connection timeframe.
Self-install connections that don't need a technician don't require you to be home at a specific time - just to plug in your modem once the service is active.
